Cycle holidays spain -Benissa Denia Gata-

Map cycle holidays spain, directly from Refugio Marnes, great rideA great bike ride, Refugio Marnes – Benissa – Alcalalí – Pedreguer – Gata – Benissa – Refugio Marnes

This is a lovely afternoon ride during your cycle holidays Spain, directly from Refugio Marnes; cycling how cycling is meant to be, with beautiful scenery and considerable suffering!

This stage starts at the bottom of the village of Benissa at the large roundabout. You may choose to go down by car and put the bike in the back so at the end of the trip there is no need to climb all the way back. The real ‘Fanaticos’ can descend by bike and climb back to Refugio Marnes.

Cycle holidays Spain a great idea the whole year round

At the roundabout go towards Senija, a small town, where it will immediately become evident you have arrived in Spain’s countryside. The town consists of only one main street and a handful of houses. The next village is Lliber, with the beautiful landscape, well maintained asphalt roads and the shining sun, one realizes you are doing a wonderful outdoor activity.

Cycle holidays Spain; After Lliber you progress towards Xaló, the road going gently uphill and this continues as you ride towards Alcalalí after having passed Xaló. From Alcalalí the climb gets steeper for about 2 miles towards the hamlet of Llosa de Camacho. From this village the lovely descent offers stunning views. On the right hand side you will see beautiful cliffs and on the left agricultural fields where various crops are grown. This 3 mile descent ends in Pedreguer,  a nice town to take a break in one of the typical Spanish bars.   Signs indicating Gata de Gorgos appear when cycling through the centre of Pedreguer. This road is flat in Spanish terms, meaning that it goes up and down but in it’s height profile is relatively flat. After Gata, the N-332, a provincial road, is taken. Because cars can drive pretty fast here it is important to keep well right, and use the hardshoulder where available. Between Benissa and Gata the road goes uphill again with about 490 feet of ascent made in 7.5 miles of cycling. Once in Benissa it is either back to the awaiting car, or the nice climb ready for dessert as a reward for those who ascended by bike!

Cycle holidays Spain and Alicante; great scenery and stringing altimeters together!
